Skin Condition or Brain Condition?

p639raptivaSo I am sure most people have seen or heard the news about the drug Raptiva.  I gotta vent here for a bit about this.  Raptiva is a drug used to treat psoriasis, a skin condition that involves dry, red patches of skin on your body.  Well the FDA wants to issue a warning, an alert, to tell you that the drug has been known to cause a rare brain infection that could lead to death.  It has been known to cause all sorts of infections apparently, viral meningitis being another one.  The injection drug seriously lowers your immune system, increasing the risk of cancer, and possibly leading to an infection that could lead to death.  This is information I got off of the Raptiva website.

Other information the website provides you with is that there were cases where people had worsening or new psoriasis problems.  So the drug has been known to make your condition worse.  Great.  It could treat it or it could make it worse, but look at all the happy people on our commercial that says that it worked for them!! Take a chance! People also had worsening or new arthritis problems.  People came down with conditions in the nervous system!  The worst part is at the end of all these warnings about the drug is this: ” These are not all the side effects of Raptiva.  Talk to your healthcare provider to learn more. ”

There’s MORE??  That was enough for me!  Who is learning about this drug and deciding, “yeah, I am willing to risk my health and possibly my life so I wont have this itchy flaky skin anymore.”  And the FDA has issued a WARNING to alert people to the RISK of taking this drug.  Isnt the FDA supposed to be looking out for our safety???  Obviously if there is ANYBODY taking this drug, we should not be able to make these decisions for ourselves.  Take the drug away, destroy it, make it illegal like you have with so many harmless plant products that could potentially be healthful to us.  But no.  The FDA wants us to choose between a skin condition or a brain infection that could lead to either death or severe disability.  Thanks guys, glad to know you are looking out for our health and safety.  Thanks for the warning.
