Alternative Cleaning Products for Your Health!

Recently, I was asked to clean a friend’s house after they moved out.  It would provide me with extra cash and them with a peace of mind about leaving the place clean.  I was blinded by the chance to earn some extra cash.  When I could see again, I wondered if it was a good idea to agree to it.  All my intensive house-cleaning experiences have been the same:  My allergies go nuts, so my nose runs nonstop and I get dizzy.  I get a headache from the smells of the cleaning products and after an hour I just need to take a shower, something for my head, and lay down in a dark room.  So, needless to say, I was worried about having to clean an entire house, not just an apartment.  The only difference this time was the cleaning products I used.

Let’s start with the window cleaner.  I am used to using Windex; it’s effective and its relatively streak-free.  However, the splashback that I would breathe in after spraying the windows would leave me coughing and induce a headache if I breathed in too much.  I found a different product to use.  It’s called Holy Cow Glass Cleaner.  It is blue, just like Windex.  It is streak-free with hardly any effort!  And best of all, it has this pleasant smell to it.  It is made with all natural ingredients so when I would breathe it in, there was no reaction, no “yuck” face.  I could just smile and appreciate the nice smell of it.  I’m telling you, this stuff worked better than Windex.  You can get the details of all their cleaning products at www.holycowproducts.com.

Next, I will talk about the soap I used to clean the counters and other surfaces.  I also used this soap in the mop bucket, along with another cleaner.  I used “Dr. Bronner’s Magic Castile Soap”.  I picked the peppermint-scented one to act as a pick-me-up for my senses.  The smell alone was very invigorating and refreshing.  The soap cleaned so well, I was amazed.  I have used this soap before, but only on myself, not for cleaning.  I was pretty surprised to see how well this soap worked as a cleaner.  It is made from all organic materials, all vegetable-based and biodegradable.  This particular company has many different products for cleaning and for personal hygeine that come in a variety of different scents, all made from essential oils.  You can find this soap in your local natural foods store in the health and beauty department.  I use it in the shower every day, but now I am going to use it more often as a cleaner as well!  Check out all their products and what they are up to in legal battles against other beauty companies that falsely claim their products are all organic at http://www.drbronner.com

The third and last cleaning product I used is called Orange Plus cleaner from Earth Friendly Products.  I used this cleaner in the mop bucket, but it did very well as an oven cleaner as well.  It is made with pure orange oil, so it has a pleasant scent and isn’t too harsh to work with.  It is very concentrated, which makes it a powerful cleaner, but it is made with not so harsh ingredients, harnessing the power of pure orange oil for it’s cleaning power.  I again bought it at my local natural foods store.  Check it out online at http://www.ecos.com/opcomp.html#desc

I sincerely recommend trying these cleaners out next time you need to do some housework or spring cleaning.  It is a miracle to me that there are cleaning products out there that are so easy to work with and have such a strong cleaning power without the harsh chemicals that do my body and mind harm.

Please let me know if you have had an experiences with alternative cleaning products that have worked for you!
